RE: e.Rpt Designer

Well, I might be a bit biased, but I like the application very much.
The wizards to create new reports and to change grouping and sorting are
very user-friendly and easy to use. In general, the interface is much like
Reporting in Access or Crystal Reports; several of our customers mentioned
that the difference is small.
Why then would you choose Actuate instead of these other tools? Because of
the integration with the powerfull posibilities of the complete Actuate
suite, including Report Server, Web functionality and possibility to create
more complex reports (multiple datastreams, overridden methods to do complex
calculations or other nice stuff) in Developer Workbench and maintain them
in e.Rpt Designer.
You would also typically create a library of standard connections and even
standard DataSources (examples: Order Information, Invoices, Relations,
Financial transactions, Financial totals) which are optimized for
performance, and let the end-user use these objects in e.Rpt Designer to
create new reports without having to worry about correctness of joins and
performance.
