RE: Running 23.1 Net Change twice to get correct planned orders

Tammy,
I haven't tested your scenario for a while, but what I expect in an MRP/DRP
environment is to run MRP, followed by DRP, followed by MRP.
The first MRP takes care of the customer sites, and should be run for just
them. If the sites supply each other, then you run both.
DRP then takes care of sending the demand information from the customer site
to the supplier site.
The second MRP run then handles processing the demand from the DRP run.
I haven't tried it in a while, though, so there may be some new things.
What you're doing in your testing is to run both MRPs at the same time.
During that process, customer sites are creating demand for supplier sites.
The second MRP run then picks up the new demand for the customer sites. So
from the supplier site's perspective, the first MRP run picks up all
changes, and the second picks up the remaining set of changes. I suspect
that if you ran the first MRP for site B and the second for site A, you'd
get what you're looking for.
Good luck :)
Scott

Subject: Running 23.1 Net Change twice to get correct planned orders
Mfg/Pro 9.0 SP2
Is it normal behavior to have to run 23.1 Net Change Materials Plan twice in
a row to get correct planned orders in a mixed MRP/DRP combined environment?
Here's my situation:
- MRP Control File, MRP/DRP Combined = yes
- Multiple sites exist. Site A & Site B are both manufacturing sites. But
only site B is a shipping site; site A supplies finished goods to site B.
- Several finished good items are defined on 1.4.17 Item-Site Planning for
site B with Pur/Mfg = D and a Network Code "A-B" (reflecting site A
supplying site B)
I ran the following test in a "sandbox" database where I was the only user.
No other activity of any sort was going on in this database at the time of
this test.
1) Ran full 23.2 Regenerate Materials Plan wide open (all sites) to have a
clean starting point.
2) Selected 4 test items, ensured they all had 1.4.17 defined for site B as
stated above. Looked at 23.12 Planned Orders for these 5 items to get a
"before" snapshot.
3) Added a new sales order for the 4 test items; SO site = B.
4) Ran 23.1 Net Change once, wide open for all sites
5) Looked at 23.12 Planned Orders for the 4 test items and expected each
planned order to reflect an increase in the order quantity to fulfill the
new demand. However, this was not the case for all 4 test items. 2 planned
orders were updated correctly and 2 orders remained untouched.
6) Re-ran 23.1 Net Change a 2nd time, wide open for all sites.
7) Now the planned orders on 23.12 are correct
I repeated steps 3-7 several times and got the same results each time. It
seems that I always need to run 23.1 Net Change twice in a row for all the
planned orders to be correct.
Is this a bug, or normal behavior?
Thanks in advance,
