RE: Printing to network printers from chui on RH Linux Enterprise 4

Hi Roger,

Your platform/environment is same as mine, so I should be able to help.
The archives have many posts on RHEL printing and QAD from myself and
others. I'm not familiar with qprt, nor really AIX for that matter, so
that's a non-starter.

"lp -dQueuename" does indeed work, so there must be more to your story.

To start with:
- What print subsystem are you using on RHEL, e.g. LPRng, CUPS?
- Do you have printer control codes specified on your MFG/PRO printer
definitions, and if so, are they the correct ones for the physical
printer(s) being used?

We are converting from AIX where we used the command "qprt
-P queuename" in the Device Pathname field to print to
network attached printers from character clients. This
doesn't work since there is no qprt command in RHL. Using
"lp -dQueuename" doesn't work either - prints the report
name across the top, but no data. We use an SSH connection
via Putty for the client.

What is the equivalent in RedHat Linux Enterprise 4? Or
what other suggestions do you folks have for printing to
network printers in chui?
